Vermilionville Museum sits on a beautiful tree-covered 23-acre site on the banks of the Bayou Vermilion with 19 attractions, including seven restored original homes with costumed artisans that provide demonstrations on crafts performed by the early settlers. Vermilionville provides its guests with a place for history, music, food, cultural exchange, historic architecture and much more. Vermilionville also has a giftshop, La Boutique, which features locally-crafted items; and a full-service restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman (Mama’s Kitchen), open for lunch Tuesday-Sunday, serving the best in local cuisine. Established in 1990. Vermilionville was begun as a subset of the Bayou Vermilion District (BVD). BVD is founded on the principle of preserving our natural and cultural resources. The District works to clean and preserve the Bayou Vermilion throughout Lafayette parish. To this end, tons of garbage are removed annually. Additionally, several green-living demonstration areas have been created to teach residents how to decrease negative manmade effects to our waterway.Vermilionville was created as a recreational opportunity along the banks of the bayou. It also serves as a strong vehicle for preserving the local culture.
