Hawaii’s Plantation Village is an outdoor collection of historic plantation buildings and gardens. We offer guided tours daily in English and Japanese, five (5) times daily starting at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 noon, 1:00 pm, and 2:00 pm. Hear the history of Hawaii come alive with our local (kama’aina) tour guides who will tell the stories of the different people who came to Hawaii to live and work, including: Hawaiian, Chinese, Portuguese, Puerto Rican, Japanese, Okinawan, Korean, and Filipino. Experience what life was like 100 years ago as you enter each home filled with authentic photographs and artifacts of the era. Gardens surround each ethnic home. Other important buildings to plantation life include a Manager’s Office, Plantation Store, Social Hall, and Infirmary to round out the picture of life on the plantation. In addition, we are the home to the Wakamiya Inari Shrine and the Chinese Cookhouse, two historic structures on the National Register that are over 100 years old. Established in 1973. The Friends of Waipahu Cultural Garden Park was established in 1973 and charged with the mission of creating and operating Hawaii’s Plantation Village. We ensure that the experiences, life-styles, struggles, innovations and contributions of our plantation forebears are known, acknowledged and visible. In 1992, Hawaii’s Plantation Village was opened to the public as Hawaii’s premier destination about the history and structures of the Sugar Plantation era in Hawaii’s History. Located in historic Waipahu town, local guides take you on a journey back to the early 1900s, where you can experience more than 25 authentic plantation homes and structures featuring personal artifacts, clothing, furniture and art placed in their original settings. Unusual plants brought from China, Portugal, Japan, Puerto Rico, Korea, Okinawa, Polynesia, and the Philippines populate the grounds. Hawaii’s Plantation Village is the only museum of its type in the world.
