Mexican food was not commonly considered a dining experience at one time here in the Boston area. At the forefront was Sol Azteca, and then Cafe Sol Azteca, who made sure the public learned that Mexican cooking was one packed with many different flavors and styles, not just spicy peppers and melted cheese, as many chain Mexican operations would have us think. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s Sol Azteca and Cafe Sol Azteca shared many awards and appearances on popular news shows like Chronicle and the Phantom Gourmet for their Mole sauce, cilantro sauce, sangria and margaritas. With Cafe Sol Azteca an ingenious addition to the Mexican dining experience was the creation of one of the most inviting outside patios in all of Greater Boston. At times customers will wait over an hour to enjoy the delight of their fresco dining.
